In a thought-provoking and informative event, UMSurabaya
welcomed a professor from Amsterdam University Medical Center, Prof. Dirk. T.
Ubbink, MD., Ph.D., to delve into the vital topic of "Evidence-Based
Practice and Shared Decision-Making for Healthcare Professionals."
The lecture commenced with an exploration of evidence-based
practice, emphasizing its pivotal role in ensuring that healthcare decisions
are guided by the most up-to-date and scientifically sound research. Prof.
Ubbink elaborated on the process of critically appraising medical literature
and integrating valid research findings into clinical decision-making. This
evidence-driven approach not only enhances patient outcomes but also
contributes to the overall advancement of healthcare standards.
Moving forward, the lecture delved into shared
decision-making, an increasingly recognized approach in modern healthcare.
Prof. Ubbink underscored the importance of collaborative patient-provider
partnerships in making informed medical choices. He emphasized that engaging
patients in the decision-making process not only respects their autonomy but
also leads to more patient-centered care. By involving patients in discussions
about potential treatment options, risks, and benefits, healthcare
professionals can facilitate decisions that align with patients' values and
preferences.
During the interactive session, attendees had the
opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Prof. Ubbink, raising
thought-provoking questions and discussing real-world scenarios. The audience
included a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including physicians,
nurses, researchers, and students, all eager to gain insights into enhancing
patient care through evidence-based practice and shared decision-making.
"UMSurabaya is dedicated to providing our students and
healthcare professionals with access to global experts who can expand their
perspectives. Prof. Ubbink's lecture was both enlightening and
thought-stirring, reinforcing the significance of incorporating evidence-based
practices and patient preferences in the healthcare journey," said
Pramudana Ihsan, Head of International Office and Partnership UMSurabaya.
Furthermore, the collaborative discussion agenda with Prof. Ubbink as the representative of Amsterdam University Medical Center continued after the guest lecture event was over. This collaborative discussion was attended by several faculty deans and the discussion went smoothly. Prof. Ubbink hopes to realize various other collaborations in the future with UMSurabaya.
